NEWS ALERT: SCW English Department Bans Technology in the Classroom

Stern College for Women’s English Literature Department has made an executive decision to ban technology (laptops, cellphones, iPads, Kindles etc) in the classroom next semester.

This ban comes in response to professors’ frustrations with students paying more attention to their laptops than they do engaging in class discussions.

Every professor has the discretion to overturn this new rule for specific instances throughout the semester; however, as it stands the entire department voted to implement the new regulation for a reason.

For students who are still unsure about their schedules for next semester, this announcement comes at a time when they can still change their schedule if they see fit.

Though the department assures students that they may receive special permission to use their laptops etc from the Office of Disabilities, students who have poor calligraphy skills or cannot focus unless they are typing may want to re-consider taking Lit in the wake of these new regulations.

We expect the English Department and the Student Academic Affairs Committee (SAAC) to issue their official statements on the matter soon.
